Focus Your Search Engine Efforts on Google

Each search website has certain standards that’s stressed more and the factors that help you rank well vary from search website to search site.

For instance, perform a search for the term sports and you may find that ESPN holds the number one spot in Google, while Yahoo! Sports holds the number one spot in Yahoo and Fox Sports holds the lead spot in MSN. Of course, then again, if you try a search for hostels, you will find that http://hotels.com has the number one spot in all 3 search sites. So what’s someone to do when optimising their sites? My recommendation is to target your attention on optimising your site to rank well in Google. Yahoo and MSN combined don’t send as much traffic as Google will if you hold the number one spot.

Also, since Google has the reputation for providing the most topical results, Yahoo and MSN have a tendency to always be playing catch up. So what’s working well in Google will possibly work for both Yahoo and MSN.

Nonetheless if you optimise for just Yahoo or MSN, you are unlikely to rank as well in Google. You can get an internet site up, get one or two links, and be indexed in just a week. Also, the rankings change more infrequently in Yahoo and MSN, which is neat if you hold the top ranking, although not so great when you are attempting to climb up in the rankings. With Google’s frequently updating index, you get more feedback on how well your search engine optimisation efforts are clearing.
